Here’s a glimpse from the drawing board, from Mike Cavallaro’s sumptuous work on Foiled, with Jane Yolen… See how he works through stages, from his loose thumbnail, to tight pencils, to ink, lettering, and color. In this case, a monochromatic palette, because the story’s heroine Aliera is color blind—until something happens to change that, in the Wizard of Oz tradition!

Soon to come, more behind-the-scenes from Mike, and his work on the sequel, Curses! Foiled Again, and maybe more on his creative process—stay tuned!
