New book new book!

We just got in finished copies of our upcoming graphic novel, The Rise of Aurora West, by Paul Pope, JT Petty, and David Rubin!

It looks fantastic!

Here’s the cover, with Aurora West.  She is off to fight monsters!

Lots of spines all lined up together!  All with a little Aurora West on the bottom!

And the title page!  I just think that this title type is really great.

Also awesome: the insides of this book.

David Rubin’s art is really gorgeous.  This book is filled with lots of lovely monsters!  And adventure!

Oh, Arcopolis.  You’re such a troubled city.  Maybe Aurora West can help out with this.

We’re so pleased to be publishing a companion to Paul Pope’s #1 New York Times Best-Selling, Eisner and Harvey Award-winning graphic novel Battling Boy.

The two spines together!

We made the decision to publish this very girl-centric story in a slightly different format than Battling Boy — black and white, and a smaller size.  It echoes a little the traditional US manga publishing format!  Also, it’s just adorable.

The Rise of Aurora West will be on sale next Tuesday.  We can’t wait!

I’ve been following Rubin’s work for years and it’s so good to see him doing a book for the american market. Can’t wait also to read Aurora West.

Question, amazon is listing a hardcover as well a softcover edition, similar to Battling Boy. Is this true?

Do you have plans to release a deluxe, larger size, version of Battling Boy for adult fans of Paul Pope’s art? I understand your rationale for releasing it in a kid-friendly inexpensive format, but there are a lot of longtime fans of Mr. Pope who would gladly pay extra for a larger size such as your “The Photographer”.

I’ve been waiting for this since I turned the last page of Battling Boy! I love the character of Aurora West. It looks great though I’m pretty bummed its a different format and not in color. It throws me off the benchmark set with Battling Boy.

My pre-order just arrived through the door and while I’m happy enough that it’s black and white (which gives it a proper flash-back feel) and David Ruben’s artwork beautifully complements Paul Popes, I can’t help but feel considerably disappointed in the choice of formatting. There really shouldn’t have been any reason to publish it as a different size to Battling Boy; it doesn’t feel unique or particularly reminiscent of manga novels, it just feels like a marginalised book in comparison. Which is a shame, as Ruben’s work would shine so much brighter on a larger page.
