test heading
Last Friday, we headed out on the Hudson River for the launch for Mark Siegel’s graphic novel Sailor Twain, which is set on a steamboat on that very same river. We were not lucky enough to have our launch on a steamboat (I think maybe they are all gone because it is not the eighteen hundreds anymore?) but we did have the chance to spend the evening sailing on the Clearwater sloop.
Pictures!
Here’s a picture taken from when we first got on the sloop — that ginormous mainsail you see weighs (if I’m remembering correctly) about 1,000 pounds.
The Hudson River was peaceful.
Until we were told that we actually had to hoist the mainsail ourselves! Then things were less peaceful.
Here’s us all raising the sail.
Afterwards we refreshed ourselves with Sailor Twain label wine.
And Mark talked about his book.
(If you couldn’t tell from the previous pictures, the ship is very tall!)
And we drank and talked and watched the Hudson River go by.
As the sun went down.
Then we sailed off into the night!
