We headed down to ALA Midwinter this weekend to spend some time at our booth with Macmillan Children’s!

And we were delighted this morning to find that Lucy Knisley’s Relish: My Life in the Kitchen won an Alex Award — the award given to the adult books of the year that also are great for teenagers as well as their adult audience.  Yay Lucy!

This is First Second’s first ever Alex Award, so we’re super-double-plus especially excited.

Also we’ve got some pictures!

Here’s our display of graphic novels at the MacKids booth.  Yay books!  They’re so charmingly attractive.

And this was on the booth wall — the cover of Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki’s This One Summer!  We’re so excited about this one, you guys.

Here’s our featured display of Gene Luen Yang’s Boxers & Saints.  This book has so many stars and best-of lists!  It’s so good that it is two volumes so it could display them all.

Loot!  Some people kindly gave us graphic novels, including Sara Ryan, whose Bad Houses I read on the train on the way home, and Scholastic, who shared a galley of Jimmy Gownley’s The Dumbest Idea Ever.

It was great to head off to snowy Philadelphia and spend time with some great librarians — and see some fantastic upcoming books!
